Disability definition
Disability refers to any health condition that has lasted or is likely to last over 12 months and may have a substantial negative impact on your studies consistently, or intermittently. This includes physical health conditions, long-term injury/recovery, mental health conditions, neurodivergence, and specific learning differences (e.g., Dyslexia, ADHD).

Disabled Students' Allowance
A government grant that covers additional costs of studying with disabilities’ or ‘DSA is support to cover the study related costs you have due to a disability such as mental health difficulties, long-term illnesses, neurodivergence or SPLD’s or any other disabilities
UK higher education students with a disability, health condition or learning difference, supported by evidence. Full and part-time, undergraduate and postgraduate, and some Level 4 and 5 qualifications.
A diagnostic assessment, or a letter from a GP or consultant. The DSA Disability Evidence Form can be used where medical evidence is needed.
You apply yourself through your Student Finance England account or a DSA form. Your adviser can point you to the right place and help you get started. Note that it can take some time to arrange. We are available to support you in your application process.
If you change course, switch study mode, repeat a year or return after a break. Postgraduates apply each year.
Dyslexia screening
Dyslexia screeners are carried out before a referral to a full diagnostic service can be made. These screeners can be booked through your Disability Adviser, or Dyslexia Tutor.
