Access to Higher Education: Ready for a change?

Posted: 10 July 2026

University Campus North Lincolnshire (UCNL), part of DN Colleges Group, is opening doors for adult learners ready to take the next step towards higher education, with its Access to Higher Education courses for 2026/27.

Designed for those returning to education or looking to change direction, these courses provide a clear, supportive route into university. Blending classroom-based learning with independent study, the programmes are built to develop the skills, confidence and qualifications needed to succeed at degree level. For those who need them, GCSEs in subjects such as English, maths or science can also be studied alongside an Access to HE diploma, ensuring learners have everything they need to progress.

Delivered in an inclusive, adults-only environment in Scunthorpe, UCNL’s Access to HE provision is tailored to fit around adult life. With funded options available, subject to eligibility, the courses are accessible to learners at any stage of their journey, whether they are building a new career or returning to long-term ambitions.

The offer includes both Level 2 and Level 3 pathways, giving learners flexibility depending on their starting point. Level 2 courses provide a supportive introduction for those who may not yet be ready for advanced study, helping to build academic skills, confidence and subject knowledge. They are particularly suited to individuals who may not have completed formal qualifications or who are returning to education after time away.

At Level 3, Access to HE qualifications are widely recognised as an inclusive route into university for adult learners. These one-year courses prepare students for higher education through more advanced study, while still offering the support and understanding needed for those balancing study with other commitments.

UCNL’s Health Science and Psychology pathways reflect growing demand for careers in healthcare, social care and behavioural sciences. Across all courses, assessment is varied and designed to support success, including written assignments, research tasks, presentations and in-class activities. Learners are also encouraged to develop independent study habits, a key skill for higher education.

With progression at its core, UCNL’s Access to Higher Education courses offer more than just a qualification. They provide a second chance, a new direction, and a practical pathway to university and beyond.
