Your first year of higher education in food science, technology and manufacturing

Level 4 · 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time · £8,190 full-time

What you’ll study

  • Introduction to Academic, Professional and Research Skills in Food Science
  • Introduction to Food Chemistry
  • Microbiology for Food Science
  • Quality and Hygiene in the Food Industry (HACCP, food hygiene and quality)
  • Operations and Project Management in Food Manufacturing
  • Food Labelling and Packaging

Entry requirements

Typical entry is Level 3 qualifications such as A Levels, BTEC or equivalent.

Applicants under 21 would normally hold 32 UCAS points.

Applications from mature learners with relevant industry experience are welcomed and considered individually.

Fees and costs

£8,190 for full-time study, covering registration, teaching and assessment. Some optional extras such as books, printing, trips and PPE may apply, and are kept to a minimum.

Where it leads

Progress onto the FdSc Foundation Degree, or into food manufacturing, quality assurance, laboratory technician, production and food safety roles.

Entry requirements

You’ll normally hold a Foundation Degree or equivalent Level 5 qualification in food science, food manufacturing or a closely related subject. Relevant industry experience is also considered individually.

£8,190 for full-time study, covering registration, teaching and assessment. Some optional extras such as books, printing, trips and PPE may apply, and are kept to a minimum.

Where it leads

Graduate roles such as Technical Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, New Product Development Technologist, Food Safety Specialist, Production Manager, Laboratory Scientist and Regulatory Affairs Officer, or postgraduate study.
