Dying Matters Community Event

2pm – 6pm
Join us for a welcoming community event as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week, creating a safe space to talk openly about death, dying, grief, and compassionate care.
Activities include:
- Before I Die Wall – share reflections on what matters most in life
- Information stands – from End of Life nurses, faith leaders, and Jen’s Special Place
- Activities – including memory tree, dancing skeleton, designing grave stones
- Death Café – informal conversations over tea and biscuits about death and dying in a supportive environment, led by an experienced practitioner
- Bookable talks – including Beyond Loss: Understanding Grief and talks by Lindsey Lodge and Jen’s Special Place
- Art and poetry display – Theme: Celebrating Life
2pm: Special Performance
My Name Is… A moving play by Brian Daniels, directed by Dr Bernie C. Byrnes, telling the story of Dr Kate Granger MBE, her husband Chris Pointon, and the powerful #HelloMyNameIs campaign which changed how healthcare professionals connect with patients.
3pm, 4pm & 5pm: Death Café
An informal chat over coffee and biscuits where you can speak openly in a supportive environment about your thoughts, feelings, anxieties, questions related to death and dying. Or just come and listen to others for self-reflection. Sessions led by an experienced practitioner. Sign up to one of the sessions throughout the event. Cafés begin on the hour.
3.30pm: A 15 minute Talk by Jemma CEO of Jen’s Special Place

How I navigated and harnessed grief to create a brighter future for bereaved families in North Lincolnshire.
5pm: Beyond Loss: Understanding Grief
A short workshop, led by Deb Kershaw, exploring the experience of grief, how it affects people, and ways we can support ourselves and others.
