Childhood is a short period of rapid development where highly skilled practitioners enhance children’s experiences, resulting in improved outcomes for children.
Awarded by the University of Hull but delivered locally here at the University Campus North Lincolnshire (UCNL) the Foundation degree is suited to practitioners in employment who wish to gain further knowledge and develop their skills to ensure the best outcomes for the children they work with.
A BA (Hons) Children’s Learning and Development is available for students who wish to continue their studies to gain a level 6 qualification. Two distinct pathways are offered, Early Childhood or Education, supporting those who work with children in education settings.

Adele Harwood BA (Hons), PGCE
Lecturer in Early years and Education
I am part of the Education and Arts department, I teach on a diverse range of programmes across levels, including foundation degree and BA honours courses within the subjects of Early Childhood and Education. I have an extensive level of industry experience which I transfer and integrate into my pedagogical approaches.
Catherine Mather MA Early Childhood Studies
Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies
I am part of the HE School of Education and Arts lecturing team. I teach on the Early Childhood Studies programmes. My role includes visiting undergraduate level 4-6 students in their work placements and observing their practice with children. Settings include early years and primary schools. An early childhood specialist who is passionate about early years, high-quality provision and supporting students in practice.

In addition to my experience as a HE lecturer, I have significant sector experience working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including setting up interventions for the local authority.

I am a Subject Area Lead, I Programme Lead the Foundation Degree in Children’s Learning and Development across both University Campus North Lincolnshire and University Campus Doncaster and I teach on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the School of Education and Arts.

I teach a range of modules at undergraduate level within the HE School of Education and Arts lecturing team. My role incorporates developing links with Higher Education Colleges within Northern Ireland, drawing on previous experience as a Human Resources professional.

I have taught in HE for over 8 years and have a range of experience assisting students to reach their goals, supporting a graduate led Early Years workforce.

As a lecturer in Children’s Learning and Development, I teach on a range of courses at varying levels across Education Studies, Early Childhood Studies, and Children’s Learning and Development pathways. I have gained a range of industry knowledge and a wide range of experience through teaching and research within Higher Education.

I have sector experience as an early years SENCO working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the correct support is offered to children and families to meet their needs.
