Kelly Severn – MA, BA(Hons), Forest School Trainer

HE Lecturer and Programme Leader, Forest School QA Lead.


I teach on a range of undergraduate programmes focusing on supporting vulnerable children and young people and I Programme Lead the Foundation Degree in Supporting Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing. I am also a Forest School Trainer and qualified practitioner.


I obtained a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies from the University of Hull, followed by an MA in Early Childhood Studies.


My experience is based around many years in Early Years settings undertaking a breadth of roles that have sparked my research interests into several areas, specifically emotional development, special educational needs, the outdoors and training others.

Further Industry Experience

I am fortunate to have experience in supporting children and young people from a variety of settings and backgrounds. I am keen to develop the curriculum that children are accessing to have a greater emphasis on early identification and support in the hope to provide healthy children and adults who thrive in our society. Within my Forest School role, I am able to work with the wider team to develop programmes, access funding and support children, young people and vulnerable adults as part of our wider social responsibility. This enables me to network with likeminded people who share a similar vision to help change our systems to achieve better outcomes for children and young people.
