HND in Construction and the Built Environment (Construction Management) – Conversion

For students wishing to continue studying after completing their HNC, the HND in Construction and The Built Environment (Construction-Management) provides a practical and academic challenge within the framework of current industrial practices in construction. It is designed to enhance the managerial and team leading skills of individuals who want to further their career in construction.

Design, construction and maintenance aspects are covered including transferable skills of communication and numeracy. It is a natural progression route from the HNC Construction and The Built Environment (Construction) programme.

Normally studied 1 year full time, two days per week over the academic year or 2 years part time, one day per week

All the units we offer have been chosen to meet a broad range of local industry needs. The programme has the following units:

– Group Project (30 Credits)
– Contracts & Management (15 Credits)
– Management for Complex Buildings (15 Credits)
– Surveying for Conservation, Renovation & Refurbishment (15 Credits)
– Project Management (15 Credits)
– Advanced Building Information Modelling (15 Credits)
– Advanced Materials (15 Credits)


A variety of forms of coursework assessment are employed on the programme.

These include written descriptive and numerical assignments, short tests, laboratory and workshop activities, personal projects, group work, portfolio preparation and case studies.

You will normally be required to have achieved the BTEC Higher National Certificate in a relevant subject area.

You could progress on to a Degree in Construction and the Built Environment at various universities.

The Higher National programmes are an ideal vehicle for progression into construction and project management roles which include tendering and estimating, contracts management, project management, site management and cost control through quantity surveying.
