The Higher National Certificate in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) covers the fundamental concepts, principles and theories of engineering, analysis and design, practical and technical skills, and transferable business skills relevant to engineering. This course is ideal for students wishing to work within the electrical or electronics engineering industries. This programme is flexibly structured and provides a practical and academic challenge within the framework of current industrial practices in engineering.
Normally studied over 1year full time or 2 years part-time.
Full-time: two days per week over the academic year.

A variety of forms of coursework assessment are employed on the programme. These include written descriptive and numerical assignments, short tests, laboratory and workshop appraisals, personal projects, group work, self- and peer-assessment, portfolio preparation and case studies.
You will normally be required to have achieved the BTEC National Certificate or Diploma or A Level or NVQ/VRQ level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area. If you hold significant practical experience or craft qualifications but not the usual level 3 entry requirement, your application would also be considered, subject to an interview with an appropriate member of the teaching team or Programme Leader.
For the majority of students, the HNC is the qualification most appropriate to immediate needs. You could, however, progress into the BTEC Pearson Level 5 HND Engineering (Electrical & Electronic) programme at UCNL.
This could then enable you to consider progression to a degree programme at a university.
